What’s behind Jon Gosselin’s bromance with Christian Audigier?
Posted by admin in christian audigier on July 24th, 2009
So, we finally got the lowdown on the Jon Gosselin/Christian Audigier connection. If you’ll recall, the reality show father of eight (minus the reverse-mulleted Kate) was recently spotted in St. Tropez in the company of affable tattoo-wear impresario Christian Audigier. Rumors immediately began to swirl that the Keystone State’s most famous family man was planning to launch a line of kids’ clothes with Audigier.
“One hundred percent untrue,” said an Audigier representative, who told us the company’s quite happy with its Ed Hardy kids clothing line, thank you very much.
So why then did Audigier fly Gosselin to the south of France for some face time? In the rep’s words: “They have common interests.” In ours: It’s a kind of blossoming bromance.
Apparently the relationship began back when Audigier’s people, doing what they do best, sent some kids clothes and a few pieces for the parents (trucker hats, T-shirts and the like) to the family in hopes that the clothes might appear in an episode of TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”
The rep told us that in the aftermath of the Gosselins’ split, Jon’s people (he’s got “people,” people!) contacted the maker of the Los Angeles based Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier and Smet lines asking for some free clothes — for himself!
Uncharacteristically, the company demurred, reasoning that fan of the brand Jon Gosselin was already wearing their tattoo-festooned, screen-printed, foil-embellished wares. But one thing led to another, and a short time later, Gosselin himself was patched through to Audigier’s cellphone and the two commenced to chatting about their mutual love of motorcycles.
From that conversation came the idea of a possible collaboration — Audigier’s flack was a bit noncommital on this point — perhaps a reality show about motorcycles or a line of motorcycle-themed clothing. Knowing Audigier, who had a film crew following him around as far back as late 2004, when I first interviewed him about the launch of the Ed Hardy line, it will be a reality show about launching a motorcycle-themed clothing line.
Audigier agreed to fly Gosselin and someone named “Hailey” — described to them as his “stylist” and whom we can only guess is one and the same as current gal pal Hailey Glassman — to visit him in St. Tropez last week to talk it through.
“Christian thinks he’s a nice guy, and they both love motorcycles, so they hit it off,” the representative said. “That’s all there is to report. There isn’t anything beyond that at this time.”
In the meantime, we’re trying to digest the most recent rumors — that Jon Gosselin popped the question to Glassman on that very same trip to St. Tropez. If that turns out to be true, can you imagine a better made-for-reality-TV tableaux than Audigier as best man and the bride-to-be in an Ed Hardy wedding gown?
We hate to admit it, but even we’d tune in for that.
UPDATE: Liz Claiborne: Juicy Store ‘Not Necessarily Closing’
Posted by admin in Juicy Couture on July 22nd, 2009
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Liz Claiborne (LIZ) said Monday its Madison Avenue Juicy Couture shop is not closed and it is “not necessarily closing.”
A Liz Claiborne spokeswoman said the company is “assessing the productivity of the store as it relates to the cost of operations” – metrics it uses with all its stores to determine “the most appropriate next steps.”
Falling store traffic has plagued retailers as consumers have tightened their purse strings amid the credit crunch. In addition, sky-high leases signed when the commercial real-estate market was booming have come back to haunt some retailers. A report by Women’s Wear Daily said the division had been paying $2 million a year for the space and planned to close the store.
In May, Liz Claiborne, whose brands include Juicy Couture and Lucky Brand Jeans, posted a first-quarter loss of $91.4 million, compared with a loss of $31 million a year earlier. Over the past two years, Liz Claiborne has eliminated several thousand jobs and streamlined its brand portfolio by selling, closing or licensing more than a dozen brands.
Liz Claiborne shares recently traded up 2.68% to $2.68.

Mad About Bargain Clothes? Try It on Wholesale

Are you contented with the bargain prices that you are getting from your clothes shop? Anyways, how do you define contentment when it comes to purchasing clothes? Contentment can only be felt once you know that your cloth is a work of quality, an object of comfort and an element of style and yes prices justifiable.

SPRINGDALE — Another family-owned business in downtown Springdale is saying good-bye. Rick’s Shoe Store is closing after 33 years of full-service shoe sales.
“It’s a sign of the times in this weak economy and changes in the way people shop,” said Stephenie Ricker Davis. “The mom and pop-owned small stores are a dying breed.”
She and husband Jason took over as store owners in 2000 when her father, Rick, retired. The store employs one other clerk besides Davis, a close family friend.
It’s a bittersweet time for Davis, who has fond memories of playing in the store windows imitating a waving mannequin from age 6, when her dad bought the shoe business and changed the name to Rick’s.
There has a steady stream of customers shopping at Rick’s in recent days after the “going out of business” sign went up outside.
With discounts between 30 and 60 percent, more than half of her inventory is gone from the past week or so, she said.
Bibb remembers the Springdale establishment all they way back to when the space was Lichlyter’s Clothing Store where she shopped a child. “It was a five and dime ran by Willard Walker before that,” she said.
Davis said the business’ niche was offering hard-to-find sizes and widths to loyal customers like Bibb. But in recent years vendors had favored larger volume buyers and it was hard to get the pricing she needed to turn a profit.
Davis joked that Bibb had just gotten a better price on the sandals than the store did at the wholesale market.
Big box discount stores, expanding department store chains and online offerings have cut into the marketshare of small family-owned shoe stores for the past few years, but Davis said the last year or so was by far the roughest.
“We typically invested about $30,000 in new inventory annually, but it didn’t happen this year,” Davis said.
“Rick’s has succumbed to downtown issues that have affected dozens of businesses over time and it’s not just happening in Springdale,” said Perry Webb, CEO of the Springdale Chamber of Commerce. “Rick’s are also a victim of the changing model for the way people shop for shoes. Having to compete on price is tough when your model is full-service.”
He said the family had plenty to be proud of running an honorable 33-year business. He is sad to see the end of another nostalgic Springdale staple.
Davis said she has no regrets about taking over the business nine years ago. “And I can see myself working in the shoe business for someone else when the time comes,” she said.
SAS, a beloved shoe brand carried at Rick’s, will be offered elsewhere in the region in near future, Davis said. Davis said she would relish the opportunity to manage an SAS store if there is an offer.
Rick Ricker owns the Rick’s Store building, and the space will be leased or sold once the shoe inventory is liquidated
